The 2022-23 UEFA Women’s Champions League
The 2022-23 UEFA Women’s Champions League will be the 22nd iteration of the European women’s club football championship. Here are the Women’s Champions League dates and a bit of information about the tournament.
Women’s Champions League History
Originally called the UEFA Women’s Cup, it was first held in 2001 and became the Women’s Champions League in 2009. The competition has been won most often by Lyon of France, who have seven titles, including five in a row from 2016 to 2020. German teams (with 9) actually have the most combined trophies, and other than those two countries, only Sweden with two have more than one championship.
Arsenal, in 2007, are the only English club to win the Champions League, and Chelsea (2021) are the only other English club to reach a Final.
Barcelona, who beat Chelsea 4-0 in last year’s Final, are the defending champions.
