  • September 8 to January 27: League Stage — when all the “big clubs” start playing.
  • January 29: Knockout playoffs draw

When does the 2026–27 Champions League start?

Technically, the 2026-27 Champions League starts with the First Qualifying Round on July 7 and 8. But for most people, it’s the League Stage they care about, and the League Stage starts with the first round of games on September 8-10. That’s when the top clubs from the top domestic leagues like England and Spain begin playing.

2026–27 Champions League qualifying round dates

The Champions League Qualifying Rounds are for the champions of lower-ranked countries and high finishers from higher-ranked countries who didn’t automatically qualify. Each round is two legs, one at each place.

First Qualifying Round

• Draw: June 16
• Games: July 7-8 and July 14-15

Second Qualifying Round

• Draw: June 17
• Games: July 21-22 and July 28-29

Third Qualifying Round

• Draw: July 20
• Games: August 4-5 and August 11

Champions League Phase: Draw and Round Dates

This is where most people start paying attention, and the point at which all the big clubs from the highest-ranked countries enter, along with the defending champions and the Europa League winners. Also, of course, whoever made it through qualifying.

League Phase Draw Date: August 27, 2026.

The Champions League Phase Game Rounds are all Tuesday-Wednesday evenings, except the first round.

• December 8-9
• January 19-20
• January 27, with everyone playing at the same time.

Champions League Knockout Round Dates

Teams finishing 1-8 in the league table get a bye to the Round of 16.

Knockout Playoffs

The knockout playoffs are for the teams who finish nos. 9-24 in the League Phase. Teams finishing 9-16 will host the second leg.

Knockout playoff draw: January 29.

Knockout playoff dates:

Champions League Round of 16 Dates

The Draw for the Round of 16, Quarterfinals and Semifinals will be held February 26, 2027.

Teams that finished 1-8 in the League Stage will host the second legs in the Round of 16.

• March 9-10
• March 16-17

Champions League Quarterfinal Dates

• April 6-7
• April 13-14

Champions League Semifinal Dates

• April 27-28
• May 4-5

When and Where is the Champions League Final?

The 2027 Champions League Final will be June 5, 2027, at the Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid, Spain. That’s it at the top of this post.
