When are the international breaks in English and European football during the 2022-23 season and beyond?

These are weekends when FIFA calls time on domestic league schedules, so during international breaks there are no Premier League fixtures.

International breaks are scheduled well ahead of time, so that national teams and domestic leagues can plan for many top players to move around the world. They will travel, for example, to take place in FIFA World Cup qualifying, the UEFA European Championships, the Africa Cup of Nations, the CONCACAF Gold Cup, etc.

And since this would leave, for example, many Premier League clubs without top players, fairness dictates that all top leagues stop playing. In England, this includes the Championship. An international break would also mean no UEFA Champions League or Europa League fixtures.

Technically, an international break is from a Monday through the following Tuesday, but for domestic league fixtures, it really means you miss one weekend. So for the lists below, we give the Saturday in which there will be no fixtures in domestic leagues such as the Premier League, Championship, Serie A, La Liga, Bundesliga, etc.

International Breaks, 2023-24 Season

There will be no league games on the weekends of:

• September 9, 2023
• October 14, 2023
• November 18, 2023
• March 23, 2024

Premier League Winter Break, 2023-24 Season

It’s not an international break, but there are weekends in January when half the Premier League won’t be playing. This is so that everybody gets a week off but there are still games each week. Those weekends are January 13 and 20, 2024.

International Competitions, 2023-24 Season

• 2023 AFC Asian Cup, from January 12 to February 10, 2024.
• 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, from January 13 to February 11, 2024.
• UEFA Euro 2024, from June 14 to July 14, 2024.
• 2024 Copa América, from June 20 to July 14, 2024.

International Breaks, 2024-25 Season

There will be no league games on the weekends of:

• September 7, 2024
• October 12, 2024
• November 16, 2024
• March 22, 2025
