Reader Report: First Premier League Match Live At The North London Derby!
Groundhopper clients Ron, Chris, and Steve enjoyed a family trip to see their first live Premier League match at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Below are Ron’s thoughts on the game:
Here is a summary of how our 1st ever Premier League Match for all of us turned out. It was truly a memorable day that I will cherish forever.
We departed our hotel in Fulham at 09:00, five hours prior to kickoff. We took the overground from West Brompton to Hackney Rail Station & then after a short transfer boarded a second overground from Hackney Downs Rail Station to White Hart Lane Rail Station. It may have been a bit longer in time, but the view is better than riding the tube. We took the same route in reverse boarding about an hour after the match.

Once we arrived we checked out the outside of the stadium and the local area. We checked out the Harry Kane Mural which is on Whitehall St. just off High St. Very nice and huge.
After a few pics from the outside of the stadium we walked south on High Street & turned west on Church Street to go to The Antwerp Arms Pub which opened up at 11:00, three hours prior to kickoff. It’s a community run Pub and we were well taken care of with a couple of pints and a quick lunch. One and a half hours prior to the match the place was packed and a spillover crowd of about 100 patrons were enjoying a pint outside where there is a park across the street. It was a beautiful sunny day.
Some happy Spurs fans enjoying the pregame atmosphere at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium!
Soon thereafter it was time to enter the stadium. We had no issues with the electronic tickets and joined the masses eagerly anticipating the match. When we entered the stands for the first time I was blown away by how huge and beautiful the stadium was. It was like I finally travelled and arrived at the Holy Grail. One pic above is pre game and the second one is just before kickoff. This trip was my sons’ idea (Chris on the left, Steve on the right) to celebrate my 70th birthday, which is coming up in mid October. What a special surprise when they suggested this to me in early June.
The exact center spot of Spur’s old home ground, White Hart Lane.
The picture above shows me pointing to the exact location of the Centre Spot of the Old White Hart Lane Stadium. It is located underneath the south stand in the concourse where they have a very long bar which was still open after the match. Just ask a steward to show you the location.
After the match we checked out the massive club store. Lots of options for souvenirs.
Summing up our day it was AMAZING! The atmosphere was electric. The only regrets was that Spurs lost 0-1 and I did not experience the home team reaction after a Spurs goal.
I would like to thank Paul & the Groundhopper team for making this experience something that I will remember forever. Well done!
