When does television set the Premier League fixtures for April? Well, it’s complicated. And stupid.

In the old days, before the 2023-24 season, this was done in a fairly predicable basis: April games were set in late February, May games in late March, etc. But they regularly missed their own deadlines — especially the one in October for December games — so this season they decided to just not announce a schedule for Premier League TV fixture changes. Instead, they rely on the condescending phrase “In due course.”

It is a stupid and arrogant process which doesn’t account for supporters at all, much less international travelers like most clients of Groundhopper Guides. And for the April 2024 TV fixture changes, they have reached the height of absurdity. We will do our best to explain here.

Are April Premier League Fixtures Set?

The TV announcement for April 20 and April 27 Premier League games was made on March 23 — more than three weeks later than in past seasons, with no explanation or heads up — and it’s not even finished.

The bottom line is we will not know exactly when some games are happening until the Champions League draw on April 19 — eight days before April 27 games! Why the Premier League and TV networks can’t take this into account ahead of time is beyond us.

Here is a quick rundown of games which could be affected.

When is the Everton v Liverpool Game?

Buckle up for this one!

The Everton v Liverpool game is currently set for 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24. However, it will switch to another time that night if Manchester City wind up with a Champions League game on Tuesday April 30. This is because City’s game at Nottingham Forest would have to move from Sunday to Saturday, meaning their league game at Brighton would need to move from Thursday to Wednesday. And remember, this is based on an April 19 draw — five days before the Everton-Liverpool game.

When is the West Ham v Liverpool Game?

The West Ham v Liverpool game is currently set for 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 27. However, it will switch to Sunday, April 28, at 2 p.m. if Arsenal wind up with a Champions League game on Tuesday, April 30. This is because Arsenal’s game at Tottenham would have to move from Sunday to Saturday — and switch places with this one.

When is the Everton v Brentford Game?

The Everton v Brentford game is currently set for 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 27. However, it will switch to Sunday, April 28, at 4:30 p.m. if Manchester City wind up with a Champions League game on Tuesday, April 30. This is because City’s game at Nottingham Forest would have to move from Sunday to Saturday.

The Tottenham v Arsenal game is currently set for 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 28. However, it will switch to Saturday, April 27, at 12:30 p.m. if Arsenal wind up with a Champions League game on Tuesday April 30.
