How to Buy Bundesliga Tickets in 2026

Bundesliga tickets are among the best value in European football — here’s how to get them.

(Updated May 2026)

The Bundesliga is probably best value-for-money option in European football — but buying Bundesliga tickets is tricky and confusing. Part of that is the usual challenges to buying football tickets (i.e., demand) but in the case of Germany, the local supporters are also given higher preference than anywhere else in Europe.

The 4 Ways to Buy Bundesliga Tickets

There are basically four ways to get Bundesliga tickets:

  • Direct from the club, which can be easier with a club membership
  • A hospitality or VIP package from the club
  • Through official reseller partners
  • Through third-party sites, which can be pretty sketchy and is in violation of clubs’ ticket policies.

So let’s talk more about buying German Bundesliga tickets, which is a slightly different process from other countries.

How Hard is it to Get Bundesliga Tickets?

Based mainly on demand and the size of the stadium, here is a very rough breakdown of how hard it is to get tickets directly from Bundesliga clubs.

Very Hard: Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Union Berlin

The good news here is that Bayern work with resellers, so we can sell you Bayern tickets. Dortmund does the same, in some seasons, but not in the 2025-26 season. And Union Berlin is in here because their stadium is tiny and they have a rabid following. Their own fans have a hard time getting tickets!

Pretty Hard: Leverkusen, Leipzig, Frankfurt, Borussia Mönchengladbach

Leverkusen also works with resellers, so Groundhopper Guides can help there. And in the past we have sometimes had Frankfurt and Gladbach, as well. (That’s Gladbach at the top of this post, by the way.)

Easier: Everybody Else

At the rest of the Bundesliga clubs, unless it’s a big rivalry game or one against Bayern or Dortmund, you stand a decent chance of getting tickets, especially with a membership.

Buying Bundesliga Tickets From the Club: Supporters Come First

By law, the ownership of German soccer clubs is 50%-plus-one in the hands of the club’s members. So the first priority is given to supporters of the club, often according to the time they’ve been supporting the club. So as a tourist trying to buy Bundesliga tickets, you’re at the end of a long line.

Order of Priority for Bundesliga Tickets

Here is how German clubs — like pretty much all clubs everywhere outside the US — distribute tickets.

  1. Season ticket holders of course get their seats, but they can also buy more.
  2. Club members (see below)
  3. General public — if there are any left at this point.

Not all games sell out, so as a member of the general public, you can often buy Bundesliga tickets directly from the club on their website. But public ticket sales at German clubs often don’t start until just a few weeks before the game. And at bigger clubs like Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, there often is no public sale.

Sometimes, this public sale is a lottery of sorts: You log your interest and, on the day of the drawing, find out how you did. Consider, for example, that Borussia Dortmund has 360,000 members and 82,000 seats, many of them held by season ticket holders.

How Far in Advance do German Tickets Go on Sale?

Generally speaking, the membership sale for a German game is about 4-6 weeks before a game. The public sale — if there is one — follows that, around 2-3 weeks before the game. Again, though, at the biggest clubs like Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, there is almost no such thing as a public sale.

Do You Need a Membership to Buy Bundesliga Tickets?

Buying a membership can help with getting tickets to a German soccer game. This is particularly true at the two biggest clubs, Bayern Munich (join here) and Borussia Dortmund (join here). Getting a membership moves you up in the order of priority and also gives you access to a member resale area, where people who can’t make the game put their tickets back for resale.

Membership also includes other benefits like a welcome gift, discounted tour and museum admission, etc. Check club websites for more information.

How to Buy a Bundesliga Club Membership

This, at least, is easy: You just pay them! At a quick glance, Dortmund is about 62 Euros ($70 US) for a season, and other clubs are even less.

How Much do Bundesliga Tickets Cost?

If you can get one from the club, you’re looking at around 75 Euros for a ticket, or even less. We’ve seen figures at Bayern and Dortmund as low as 20 Euros!

Of course that varies wildly with where you’re going, whom they are playing, and where you choose to sit. But it’s much cheaper than a Premier League ticket.

Buying Bundesliga Hospitality and VIP Tickets

All German soccer clubs also sell hospitality, or VIP packages, and this is an excellent way to get into a Bundesliga game. These typically include lounge access and/or other benefits in addition to game tickets. You don’t need to be a member to purchase Bundesliga hospitality tickets, but of course they are more expensive than regular tickets.

Another advantage of buying hospitality is that the above timeline usually don’t apply; you can buy hospitality well in advance of the game.

How do you get hospitality for Bundesliga games? Just check the website of the club you’re interested in. You can also email or call them with questions and to book your tickets. In my experience, they pretty much always speak English.

Buying Bundesliga Tickets From Official Resellers

Many German clubs work with official resellers. These are companies, often large ticket broker agencies, which contract with the club to purchase and “own” multiple regular tickets and/or hospitality for every home game. They then sell these tickets direct to the public, but also sometimes through official sales agents.

Groundhopper Soccer guides are official sales agents for several of these broker agencies, which allows us to sell fully official, guaranteed tickets and hospitality to German clubs including Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen, Mainz, Werder Bremen, and some 2. Bundesliga clubs like Hertha Berlin and Schalke.

Buying Bundesliga Tickets From Third-Party Sites

Buying Bundesliga tickets on StubHub or some other third-party site is possible, but it’s risky and also against the clubs’ policies.

Here is typical language from the Borussia Dortmund website:

Platforms such as viagogo, StubHub, eBay or classified ads have not been authorized by us to sell tickets … . The purchase of … tickets via such channels is not only risky, but also violates … our General Ticket Terms and Conditions plus our principles of fairness and integrity.

Bayern Munich, for example, explicitly mentions viagogo, StubHub, eBay, and footballtickets as unauthorized places to not buy tickets.

Members and season-ticket holders who sell tickets via third-party sites are often found and punished by the club.

What is the risk to you as a purchaser? You could get to the turnstile and find out the tickets are no good. You would (probably) get your money back, but you won’t get into the game.
