Manchester City’s plans for stadium expansion have been approved

Manchester City have officially received the go-ahead to begin their £300 million expansion of Etihad Stadium

The planned renovations will increase the capacity of Etihad Stadium from 54,000 to over 60,000, making it the 4th largest stadium in the Premier League. One of the main areas of expansion will be in the North Stand, which will feature a brand new upper tier built above the existing lower tier. This new upper tier will have a skybar overlooking the pitch, as well as a stadium skywalk experience. Construction will limit the capacity of the North Stand during the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons, with some season ticket members being relocated throughout the stadium.

The Manchester City North Stand, seen across the pitch here, will be the center of the expansion project, featuring a brand-new upper tier.

In addition to the changes being made to the North Stand, plans also include a covered ‘City Square’ fan zone with a capacity of 3,000 people, a new club shop, museum, ticket office, TV studio, food and drink outlets, and a 400-bed hotel. Construction is expected to cost £300 million and begin in November 2023, with the expanded North Stand expected to be complete and open during the 2025-26 season. The additional expansion projects are expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
