Why Go to a Game at Ipswich Town?

Ipswich is just over one hour from London by train. You hop on at Liverpool Street Station, and when you hop off in Ipswich, you can see Portman Road. It’s about a 15-minute walk, tops. So if you want, you could have lunch in central London, catch a 3 pm game in Ipswich, and be back for dinner!

As for the experience, Portman Road is a very traditional old ground, especially in the Cobbold Stand, built in 1971. That’s where our seats are. There are some good pubs around — old ones in the historic town center and newer ones in the redeveloped waterfront — and the atmosphere can be quite good. And all due respect to the town of Ipswich, but it’s nice to be able to hop back to London after the game!

Best Games to See at Ipswich Town

Without a doubt, if they are in the same division, you want to see the East Anglian Derby between Ipswich Town and Norwich City.

I saw the East Anglian Derby at Norwich a few years back, and it was a blast.

For the 2025-26 season, they were both in the Championship. We will hope it stays that way for the 2026-27 season — although of course Town will be looking for another promotion to the Premier League.
