Some Suggested European Soccer Itineraries

Some Suggested European Soccer Itineraries

We think that the Champions League Group Stage fixtures are just about the most exciting time of the season to go groundhopping. And here are some suggested itineraries — all made up of clubs where we can sell you tickets — that show what we mean.

What we have done here is simply get out the fixtures for the Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League — all of which occur from Tuesday to Thursday evenings in the same weeks from September to December.

Next we compared those to the clubs where we sell Champions League tickets.

Then we got out a map to see where you can either see three games in the same country the same week, or at least two really good ones, or occasionally get a quick plane or train ride to where you need to go.

Kickoff at Real Madrid’s Bernabeu Stadium

And remember, all of these midweeks are preceded and followed by league weekends, so you can spend a week in a country and see five games — or 10 days and see seven or eight!

All this while the tourist crowds are down, the prices are down, and the weather is still great! What’s not to love?

So here are some suggested itineraries, just to get you excited. If you want more details, hit us up with the form at the bottom of this post, and we’ll get you going.

(Home teams are listed first below.)

September 19-21

England: League weekend, then a Tuesday in Manchester, then Wednesday in London, and Thursday in either Glasgow or London. Then a league weekend!

  • Tuesday: Man City vs Red Star Belgrade
  • Wednesday: Arsenal vs PSV
  • Thursday: Rangers vs Betis or West Ham vs Backa Topola

Holland/Belgium: Before and after this, England is an easy plane trip, Paris is a cool train ride, and Germany isn’t far off.

  • Tuesday: Feyenoord-Celtic in Rotterdam.
  • Wednesday: Nothing here, but go spend the day in Amsterdam!
  • Thursday: Club Bruges vs Besiktas.

October 3-5

England: It’s just over three hours from Manchester/Liverpool to Glasgow.

  • Tuesday: Manchester United United vs Galatasaray
  • Wednesday: Celtic vs Lazio
  • Thursday: Liverpool vs Union Saint Gilloise.

Holland/Belgium: Other than PSG, maybe not the biggest clubs in Europe, but a fun and easy itinerary!

  • Tuesday: PSV vs Sevilla
  • Wednesday: Antwerp vs Shakhtar
  • Thursday: Gent vs Maccabi

Italy: A shame Napoli and Inter play the same night, but it’s all easy on the trains here. Spend Wednesday in Florence if you went to Milan on Tuesday.

  • Tuesday: Napoli vs Real Madrid or Inter Milan vs Benfica
  • Wednesday: Florence? Rome? Naples?
  • Thursday: Roma-Servette

October 24-26

England:

  • Tuesday: Manchester United vs Copenhagen
  • Wednesday: Celtic vs Atlético Madrid
  • Thursday: Liverpool vs Toulouse

Spain: A little creative here, since Villarreal isn’t that exciting, but Barcelona to Rome is an easy flight.

  • Tuesday: Sevilla vs Arsenal
  • Wednesday: Barcelona vs Shakhtar
  • Thursday: Villarreal vs Maccabi or Roma vs Slavia.

November 7-9

England:

  • Tuesday: Manchester City vs Young Boys
  • Wednesday: Arsenal vs Sevilla
  • Thursday: West Ham vs Olympiakos

Italy:

  • Tuesday: Milan vs PSG  or Lazio (in Rome) vs Feyenoord
  • Wednesday: Napoli vs Union Berlin
  • Thursday: We don’t have them, but try to get to Atalanta or just fly to London or Glasgow for a game.

Spain:

  • Tuesday: Atlético Madrid vs Celtic
  • Wednesday: Real Madrid vs Sporting Lisbon or Real Sociedad (in San Sebastian) vs Benfica
  • Thursday: Real Betis (in Seville) vs Aris

November 28-30

England:

  • Tuesday: Man City vs Leipzig
  • Wednesday: Arsenal vs Lens
  • Thursday: Rangers vs Aris or Liverpool vs LASK

Spain/France:

  • Tuesday: Barcelona vs Porto
  • Wednesday: Sevilla vs PSV or Real Madrid vs Napoli or Real Sociedad vs Salzburg
  • Thursday: Probably have to fly someplace, but that’s easy from Madrid or Seville.

December 12-14

England:

  • Tuesday: Manchester United vs Bayern
  • Wednesday: Celtic vs Feyenoord
  • Thursday: West Ham vs Freiburg

Holland/Belgium:

  • Tuesday: PSV vs Arsenal
  • Wednesday: Antwerp vs Barcelona
  • Thursday: Bruges vs Bodo-Glimpt
