One question we get often is whether bags are allowed into English soccer games. And…
Soccer Games I Have Seen in my Quest to Join the 92 Club
I update this post regularly with all the football soccer games I’ve seen in the UK and Europe.
For more on what that means, check out this post about the world of groundhopping.
As of September 27, 2024, I have seen 262 games at 153 different grounds in the UK and Europe, including 91 of the current 92 English league grounds. Chesterfield, here I come!

Treating cup games as “league” games, I have seen the home team take 371 of a possible 786 points. That’s 1.42 points per game, about on pace to finish just above mid-table. That doesn’t seem like a great record for always playing at home! I used to think I was a curse for the home team, but further analysis has indicated that my results are “bang average.”
A few fun and random facts:
- At one point in 2017, the home team had a 12-game unbeaten run.
- At another point in 2018, I went more than 3.5 games without seeing a goal. One time, I saw six clean sheets in seven games and three out of four that finished 3-0.
- I’ve been to Crystal Palace eight times, and they lost six of those
- I’ve been to Burnley three times, and they have lost by a combined 10-1.
- Before I went to Port Vale, I had seen them play, and lose, four away games.
- I messed up on a kickoff time at Scunthorpe, arrived at halftime, then wondered if it “counted” as a ground visit. They were relegated that year, anyway. And again the next year.
- Four times I have seen 7-goal games: three 4-3 home wins (Newcastle-Norwich 2016, Liverpool-Salzburg 2019, and Sutton-Port Vale 2021) and one 0-7 home loss: Beckenham Town to Stockport County in the League Cup.
- Groundhopper Paul’s List of Games:
The dates here are done in the American style, the results in rest-of-the-world style, with the home team listed first.
If you don’t see a competition listed, it was just a regular league game.
I listed Southampton as the home team in an FA Cup Semifinal at Wembley on 4-22-2018 because I was cheering for them and sat in their end.

I have begun the hobby of grounds hopping as well. Little harder to do from the USA. Are you ever looking for contributors from a foreigners perspective? I am new to the game and have only been to 10 matches at 10 stadiums and will hit 2 stadiums (three matches) more in two weeks. I am after the fan experience. yes it is fun to watch Arsenal, Tottenham, Man U. … but i like the raucous crowd. It is unlike any sporting experience in the US. If you ever need a park hopper to go with I amgame
Thanks, Rob! Sorry I didn’t see your comment earlier. As I am an American, I think I’m covered from a foreigner perspective :-). But thanks for reading. And I totally agree on the fan experience; that’s what it’s all about.
came here to watch the bounce slayer video.
I see you were also at our win versus Leeds a few weeks ago.
get yourself to Anfield or Old Trafford to watch the blades next year.
